Reproduced below note of Asian Marxist Review:
What a heart has stopped beating! Lal Khan, whose name needs no introduction in revolutionary politics not only in Pakistan but all over the world, he breathed his last today, 21 February, to 19 hours Lahore. He had been battling cancer for the past year and a half. I had 64 years.
He was one of the founders of "La Lucha", Marxist fortnightly magazine in urdu, chief editor of Asian Marxist Review and International Secretary of the Trade Union Defense Campaign Pakistan (PTUDC). Lal Khan began the revolutionary struggle to which he devoted his life as a student leader at the Nishtar Medical College Multan at the end of the decade 1970 and soon he became interested in the ideas of Marxism and revolutionary socialism. During the despotic regime of Zia-Ul-Haq, He endured flogging and imprisonment and then exile for many years when the courts of military justice sentenced him to death for not giving up his political activities. For more than four decades, He fought under the banner of revolutionary socialism by the historical interests of the working class. In the dark period that developed after the collapse of the Soviet Union, not only he laid the foundations of a Marxist organization in South Asia, but implacably he defended, through dozens of his writings, Marx's ideas, Engels, Lenin and Trotsky against the onslaught of imperialist propaganda failure assumption socialism as a social system. His confidence and belief in the communist future of humanity remained unwavering until his last breath.. The journey of your life may have come to an end, but it will live long in the struggle for the emancipation of humanity from capitalist exploitation and tyranny in Pakistan, South Asia and the world. His legacy will inspire many future generations will have to keep the red flag high. We would like to pay tribute with words of Comrade Lenin: What a torch of reason ceased to burn, What heart has stopped beating! Comrade Lal Khan goodbye ... your memory will always be honored.
