Mobilization in Madrid: "They will not shut us up. Sahara free now. The only solution, self-determination
Neither the Moroccan Kingdom nor the powerful who support it have been able to defeat the Saharawi people who are still standing. From the LIS we actively support the claims for a Free Sahara.
Saturday 12 the annual demonstration of Saharawi claim was held. A combative column full of flags and banners from Western Sahara left Atocha until it reached Plaza Santa Ana. Along the way slogans such as"Sanchez attends, the Sahara is not for sale" and "Morocco murders, “Spain sponsors.”The demonstration was called by the State Coordinator of Solidarity Associations with the Sahara (CEAS-Sahara), under the motto"They will not shut us up. Sahara free now. The only solution is self-determination.”The demonstration coincided with two important events, one contemporary and one historical.
The farce of the UPR 41
The first took place on 8 last november. It was the realization ofUniversal Periodic Review (UPR for its acronym in English –Universal Periodic Review -). It is a mechanism of the United Nations Human Rights Council (HIM) what, every four years, examines the human rights situation in member states. This time it was the turn of the Kingdom of Morocco. The session was a farce in which most delegations applauded the misleading"advances of Morocco", without mentioning the repressive reality suffered by the Saharawi people. It is a miserable attitude that encourages the Alawite dynasty to continue committing crimes, torture political prisoners, crush democratic rights and freedom of expression. HeAlawite regime exchanges complicit silences for economic and political favors.
The disastrous Madrid Tripartite Agreement
The second was a historical fact since, he 14 November 1975, a few days before the death of the dictator Franco, was signed onMadrid Tripartite Agreement. Through this instance, Spain ceded to Morocco and Mauritania its“Sahara Province”. This was the basis from which the Spanish colonialists began to shake off the responsibilities for decolonization that fell to them as“administering power”.It is the road that paved theMINURSO (United Nations Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara) that does not guarantee the referendum since its foundation in 1991. The right to self-determination tries to bury, to adopt Mohamed VI's plans to grant the Saharawi people only limited autonomy under Moroccan sovereignty.
The Sahara still stands
The Moroccan monarchical regime invades, shake and plunder under the cover of many complicities. It has the endorsement of the North American and European imperialists, from the UN, of the genocidal State of Israel and the Spanish State. Not even with so much power have they been able to defeat the Saharawi people who demand in all instances, fight for their land and mobilize in countries around the world. This time, It was the streets of Madrid that once again witnessed the strength of a people that does not give up. Of a youth that drives a fair claim for freedom, for the recovery of the territories occupied and plundered by the imperialist powers and capitalist companies.
More than ever, we are with the saharawi people
The organizations that make up theInternational Socialist League (LIS) on all continents, as is the case of Socialism and Liberty (SOL) - Spanish state, We actively support the demand for respect for human rights and the realization of self-determination for Western Sahara. We have responded to the request for solidarity by traveling to thecamps in Tindouf, withinternational campaigns, among which the most recent was #UPR41Morocco: "The Kingdom of Morocco violates human rights", of which we reproduce only a few examples.
Ruben Tzanoff, Socialism and Freedom, Spanish state
