Brazil: The metamorphosis of the PSOL continues. bureaucratization, defamation and disappearance of political independence
By Socialist Revolution-PSOL. LIS, Brazil.
While the right and the extreme right gain prominence (including positions in the current government), the project of an anti-capitalist left fades, with class independence and a socialist program of the PSOL. We, internal current with party members and founders, We see with deep concern this ongoing metamorphosis with the aim of adapting to the project of class conciliation.
In the last National Directory (DN), the majority direction (Socialist Spring and Solidarity Revolution) approved a current political resolution supporting the Lula-Alckmin government, at the same time of the presentation of the Fiscal Framework, a reissue of the spending ceiling on public policies. While the government prepares to attack working people, the PSOL declares its unconditional support. Unfortunately, This has not been the only wrong resolution.
Bureaucratization in progress
The DN voted a resolution that regulates the convocation and operation of the 8th National Congress of the party. One of the new rules stipulates that the presentation of a Thesis requires approximately 1.700 signatures - in the previous Congress they were 400-. We are talking about another attack on internal democracy, a change that ends the diversity of opinions and tendencies, characteristic that gave rise to the PSOL. In 2005, when the radicals decided to found a new anti-capitalist party, at a time when the PT was adapting to the bourgeois State and government, The unification of different traditions of the socialist left in the same party was achieved. The success of this orientation is explained by the decision of each of the political directions, there gathered, to respect differences and build unity.
We defend a method of operation that respects different opinions because we believe in the power that comes with it.. It is the meeting of different opinions, of debate and collective elaboration from which the best synthesis emerges. We believe that the differences between colleagues who share a common project are logical and necessary. But the majority leadership throws all this in the trash.
In small towns, where the party had a few hundred members, there have been two or three times as many new affiliations recently. Even with absurd cases of one person affiliating hundreds and thousands of others. In cities where there are parliamentarians, or where the PSOL is part of the government, the number of new memberships is in the tens of thousands. This is a corrupt process of mass affiliations, without any political criteria, and that is not expressed in the participation of these members in the daily militancy of the party.
The bureaucratization process of the PSOL goes hand in hand with its political metamorphosis. The radical change in the party's political project, becoming a defender of the class conciliation project, needs a method of operation that eliminates debate, criticism and confrontation of ideas. It is a steamroller at the service of imposing a policy with the methods of any bourgeois party..
Spring slander against Silvia Letícia, woman and PSOL councilor in Belém-PA
A clear example of all this is the political slander that Primavera Socialista (the internal tendency of Intendant Edmilson Rodrigues) is doing against our fellow councilor in Belém/PA. Silvia Letícia is a colleague with a long union and political tradition. She is a founding member of the PSOL, currently board member of SINTEPP Belém (Union of Public Education Workers of the State of Pará), national leader of the CSP-Conlutas, national leader of the Socialist Revolution, and today councilor for the PSOL in the city, who never tires of ratifying his commitment to the working and poor people.
We will not remain silent in the face of this political slander against the rights of workers and poor people.. According to councilor Silvia Leticia herself, «I am a PSOL councilor, I follow what my party determines, its program and its statutes. I defend in the Municipal Council the program that we presented in the elections for the population of Belém, a program of change for the better. Thus, I have been demanding in the spaces to which I have had access, the fulfillment of campaign promises made by Mayor Edmilson, nothing more than that".
For all that, the tendency of the Mayor, with a majority in the State Board of the PSOL-PA, published a note slandering the partner of reproducing fake news and allying with the extreme right. full of lies, this note, with methods already known in history by Stalinism, has no other objective than to try to expel our colleague from the PSOL. Primavera and Edmilson have fallen into despair and that is why they choose the deplorable method of slander. They are terrified that a councilor from the same party, with access to all the information about the municipal management of Edmilson, use parliament to denounce and defend workers' rights, the workers and the poor people who suffer in Belém because of a "left-wing" bourgeois management.
We ask for all organized and individual solidarity with Silvia Letícia against this political slander of Primavera.
It's time to act, the socialist left needs to unite
The 8th National Congress of the PSOL, summoned for the days 29, 30 September and 1 October this year, is of capital importance. It is time to act in unity with all those who defend the founding project of the party. In defense of the anti-capitalist and independent PSOL, We must make the greatest efforts and present to the bases of the party a class and left-wing alternative. From the Socialist Revolution we campaign very firmly for this and we call on all militancy to share this objective and join our ranks..
