I PAN AFRICAN CONGRESS OF THE LIS: views and opinions of the participants
We continue to reflect the participation of different delegations in the I Pan-African Congress of the LIS that is taking place in Nairobi, Kenya.
Suzete Chaffin – Socialist Revolution (Brazil)
Hello people! I'm Suzete Chaffin., Socialist Revolution activist, section of the International Socialist League in Brazil and I am here to talk to you about this incredible experience of participating in this first Pan-African Congress of the LIS. First, the excitement and joy of being in mother earth Africa, the land of my ancestors. And then talk about the importance of this fundamental activity that was carried out here, to meet with colleagues from 14 African countries and discuss with them the specificities of each country, exchange experiences, exchange knowledge and by giving our debate conclude in the need to unite to build a socialist society, the need to unite to defeat capitalism, because it is the only way out for the working class and to know the many evils that capitalism imposes on this region of the world. to my ancestors, to my ancestors, I want to tell you that I came here with a romantic vision, I think all of us in Brazil have it, of being in the mother land of Africa. And then reality imposes on us a critical political consciousness that leads to what is the first Pan-African Congress of the LIS., the union of African peoples for the construction of socialism, of the fight for a better society. and look, I leave here very happy, very inspired, very encouraged and strengthened, because our fight in Brazil against racism, this racism that capitalism imposes, that ends up killing black people and poor people and workers, needs to be unified, needs to have the strength of conscience and socialist practices. And I found this here. I come out very strengthened. I bring to Brazil the idea of revolutionary Pan-Africanism and the strength of many brothers and sisters who are with us in this construction of a socialist society.. United Africa, free africa, Socialist Africa! as the brothers and sisters here taught me. And long live socialism!!
Chaia Ahmed Baba – Sahrawi Youth Union – Western Sahara
I'm Chaia. I am from Western Sahara and today we conclude the 1st Pan-African Congress of the LIS, where we have discussed, as we usually do, on all international affairs, about the economy, about the woman, about everything that is happening in Niger and Haiti. And we make resolutions where we are going to continue fighting, taking out companies and supporting each other, because we are absolutely certain that everything is solved with internationalism and the LIS is internationalist.
Hadija Amen, African footprints (Tanzania)
Hola, comrades, my name is Hadija Amina from Tanzania. I am a member of the Tanzania Pan African Youth Leadership Foundation. At today's conference, I see that to defeat capitalism in the world, we need to work as a team and come together.
Celestine Obafemi, Alliance Against Neoliberal Attacks, Nigeria
Greetings, my name is Celestine from Nigeria. I Represent Nigerian Students Against Neoliberal Attacks (Nigerian Students Against Neo-liberal Attacks – ANSA). I was so excited to join this group because at the time I was in Comoros and had seen the cases, the stories, I felt like it was something close to home and I thought I wanted to do something about it.. Equally, I wanted to give my opinion, at least put some action on the conviction I had. further, I am excited to know that there is a group that supports students like this and in Nigeria no less. So I was excited to put my passion and energy forward. And when I came to the conference today, I have been excited to see that the convictions I have are not only international, count throughout the continent, international and continental. I'm excited to join more people and for people to join me in the visions I have.. I love the real points we made.. I love the representation that everyone is giving. It sounds like the kind of passion and conviction I was looking for and I'm glad to have the opportunity to speak with all of you.. I'm glad I have the opportunity to get to know you more and I'm glad I feel like I've at least done something.. I want to do more than I want to achieve. Nevertheless, where do i see it from, we still have a lot to do. But we are on the right path, we are going in the right direction, we have the people and we can get more. I'm very happy about that. So, what we do at Nigerian Students Against Neoliberal Attacks (ANSA) is to carry out social defense, capacity development and youth empowerment. We have done programs where we go to different institutions. We have sat down to talk, talking digitally, way a way, to express our opinions, express our feelings, our convictions, feminism, socialism and all the trends and influences of the new colonialism that we feel in our country, in our neighboring countries and on the continent. further, we can interact with many people and find out what they are thinking. And if they feel the same as us, who can do something about it, we win more people every day, we get additional information and have more opportunities to open the farm, and that empowers us. Gracias.
Benedict Badiane, Front for a Popular, Pan-Africanist and Anti-imperialist Revolution (Senegal)
Greetings Congress, soy Benedict. I am from the Organization of the Front for the Popular Revolution (Front for Popular Revolution Organisation) in which we teach the comrades basically about the anti-imperialist revolution. That is the most important thing to confront French imperialism.. Especially in Africa, since French imperialism is still affecting the economies of African countries, in such a way that the French monetary rules and laws, its economic rules, are applied in African countries. That is colonialism and imperialism.
So we are trying to teach people how to fight against French imperialism, how to depend on ourselves, find our own way to evaluate our economy and have sovereignty of the economy of African countries, mainly in all of them. So today we had a meeting where we gave our opinions, resolutions and talked about how to fight to get rid of the French and other colonialists affecting Kenya. I mean Kenya, Senegal, Uganda, among others. So today we held a congress in which we came up with very good ideas and solutions that can help us unite and have the sovereignty of Africa.. Because Africa is one of the homes of humanity.
Evelyne Adbiambo, Leah Wanjiru, Mary Wanjiru -RSL Kenya
Leah: My name is Leah I coordinate the Justice Center, which is a center of a social justice movement, where we advocate for human rights. It is a movement located in Nairobi, but we have other chapters in Mombasa, Korogocho and the western part of Kenya. Our main objective is to see a country with zero violence against human rights.
Evelyne: My name is Evelyne from Korogocho Peace and Justice. It is an NGO, an organization that defends any violation of human rights, like gender violence, police brutality, extradition and murders. We do tutoring for young mothers, young women, we also support the environment, like now that we are fighting for the climate to change.
Mary Wanjiru: Soy Mary del Centro Korogocho en Nairobi, Kenya. What I would say about Congress, I'm very impressed, I learned many new things. I have realized that also at the international and pan-African level we have to unite in order to free ourselves from the capitalists. So, whatever the place, let's go back to the community, and let's train in different areas of our community where we can educate and give an opportunity on earth, and I believe that in this way we can free ourselves from oppression.
The Korogocho Center is also a member of the Revolutionary Socialist League (What led them to found it and what journey have they taken so far?), so we have a political center area. Because our main problem in Korogocho is pollution and a garbage dump that is close to our village and affects our environment. Our main village is ecological and we are advocating a lot for the mass production of bamboo and food trees to be able to mitigate the air. Yes, so we are part of RSL, We are a member organization of the Revolutionary Socialist League.
