Valencia: No to the European Pact on Migration and Asylum

By Santiago González

Tuesday afternoon 2 April, to the premises of the Valencian Interdesion, the preparation assembly for the rally against the European Pact on Migration and Asylum was held (PEMA) proposed by the European Union. With the participation of various groups, political organizations, trade unions and independent activists formed work teams for the planned concentration for al 10 in April in Valencia. Demonstrating a strong will to coordinate the fight between various sectors to stop the terrible plan that the EU has for immigrants.

An anti-rights and anti-human Pact

The PEMA agreed by the European Commission proposes new rules for people trying to apply for asylum in European territory. What initially arose with the idea of giving an equitable response between the countries that make up the block to migration crises, it was transformed into a pact to avoid giving asylum in European territory to those who need it due to the pressure of the extreme right in the institutions, to which the right-wing and social democratic governments also subscribed.

Among the agreed rules it is foreseen that governments will be able to avoid relocations with the payment of 20.000 euros per rejected person. Enables hot returns without prior identification or attention of any kind, also the time of detention at the border, which makes the wait harder for those who are not returned immediately. Forces people to remain in deprivation of liberty until 6 months in border areas and enables the detention of entire families and children older than 6 years. So the approach is the illegal entry of the "refugee" for whatever reason, because they first encounter rejection or detention before humanitarian aid. These measures are already fully or partially applied to member countries of the imperialist Bloc, complemented by the abandonment of people at sea which causes thousands of deaths every year, the repression at the borders and the deportations that return the immigrants to the horror from which they are trying to escape.

Territorial actions

Broad progressive and democratic sectors, both independent and organized, they reject the cut to democratic and social rights, the inhumane treatment and racism towards immigrants. The Pact generates anger and mobilization among the population, that's why in more than 30 territories throughout the State there will be different actions between the 5 and 11 April.

10 in April in Valencia: all in Plaça de la Verge

For all these reasons, Valencia is not the exception but the rule in protest. The call will start at 19h with the concentration in which more than 22 organizations and groups. There will be artistic interventions and a projection of what is happening in Brussels. Let's be many and demonstrate with street pressure the rejection of the anti-immigration lobby that politically commands the extreme right and from governments make up both right-wing and social democratic expressions. Cap person is illegal, roles and rights for all!

Group gathered in Valencia.

Also in Brussels

In addition, a mobilization is called at the door of the European Parliament on the day 10 April, on the day of the vote with the participation of organizations and demonstrators from all the countries involved in the vote. Also civil society colleagues in the fight against the Pact, present their citizens' initiatives accepted for processing, in Brussels, the day 9 April on April at 5pm.

For a world without borders

We promote the widest unit of action and intercontinental coordination, mainly European-African, in defense of the rights of immigrants. There is an alternative to the project of the imperialist "Fortress Europe" that the ultra-right promotes and the right and social democracy agree to, a Europe of Workers and Peoples is needed, egalitarian, solidarity and welcoming, in a world without borders that can only be socialist.
