Dana: In the face of catastrophe, solidarity with the Valencian people
The most devastating storm in the history of Spain has left behind completely destroyed populations in the provinces of Albacete and Valencia. As an unprecedented catastrophe loomed, Thousands of people in the metropolitan area of Valencia were forced to do their usual work day.

At the close of this note, they have been found 158 people died and there are still many missing, thousands who have lost everything and are in shelters or continue on the streets without the possibility of movement. The material damage that occurred last Wednesday 30 October are, at the moment, incalculable.
The DANA that hit Valencia, It is one of the many climatic episodes that will become more and more frequent as this capitalist system continues to contaminate the air and water of our planet..
On the one hand, We have systemic responsibilities that imply a fundamental change. But there are also first-order political and employer responsibilities since it seems inconceivable that with a red alert established throughout the day there have been so many people leading a normal life.. Thousands of people in the Valencia metropolitan area were forced to do their usual workday while an unprecedented catastrophe loomed.
It's not the weather, It is the system
Based on a special report from the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), two more degrees of average temperature worldwide will generate a 170% more flood risk, figure reached last December.
Although it is not yet the average temperature, obviously we are on our way to overcoming those 2 degrees more, with respect to pre-industrial levels. This should set off alarms and make background changes. Nevertheless, there are denialist sectors, like those of Vox, who think that the Emergency Unit is an unnecessary expense.
The clear example of this denialism about climate change is that of the president of the Valencian Community Carlos Mazón of the Popular Party, who just took office a year ago, suppressed the Valencian Emergency Unit, listening to the requests of its government partner.
Denialism kills and they are the ideological and political culprits that many people have not been able to be rescued from this devastating storm in time., as well as the fact that many citizens were outside their homes at that time as if it were a normal day.. Some of the many examples that we could present are that of the Mercadona worker who had to be rescued in the extremes while making a delivery with the company truck or that of the workers who remained for hours clinging as best they could to a wall in the industrial estate where they were working while the water level rose in a matter of minutes..
If the PP and VOX government had not waited for the end of the working day to issue the alarm signal to all Valencian citizens, The number of people who perished in the catastrophe would have been significantly lower. A 24-hour notice and the suspension of all work activities was the political decision that was needed to protect the lives of all these people..
Right now you can only think about what is urgent. And that all those affected by DANA recover their lives as quickly as possible. That is why at this moment the solidarity of the population is being essential so that the victims can eat., drink and clean the streets since state aid has not yet reached all affected places.
The State has to put all its resources so that citizens recover as quickly as possible and without bureaucratic obstacles everything they have lost in this environmental catastrophe.. Without forgetting of course to demand the relevant political responsibilities, in this case the resignation of Carlos Mazón, president of the Valencian Community and one of those responsible for the death toll being so high.
Of course these parties are going to continue denying environmental reality, because the sustenance of this capitalist system is not compatible with environmental care, for it, we have to fight for a different system urgently and tirelessly, there is no planet B, and ours, the only one we have, He is asking us for help in an atrocious way.
SOL colleagues in Valencia meet, like so many thousands of Valencians, helping neighbors, cleaning streets, participating in food collections and different basic necessities. In an unprecedented climate catastrophe, solidarity is the order of the day.
