Occidental Sahara: Demonstration in Madrid
The Sahrawis carried out their annual mobilization in Madrid. They resist the Moroccan invaders and their accomplices on all fronts. Their fight for self-determination is sustained over time.
Like every year, the Sahrawis staged an important protest day in Madrid, raising their historical and present claims. The flags, The posters and typical Sahrawi clothing gave color to the action. It began with a combative demonstration that toured the avenues and streets that separate the Atocha Station from Plaza Puerta del Sol., where an event was held. There were expressions of solidarity with the people of Palestine and Lebanon attacked by imperialist Zionism. And with the Valencian people, severely affected by DANA; which caused human and material losses.
On this occasion the convening motto was “Self-determination of Western Sahara” ,”For compliance with the rulings of the Court of Justice of the EU”. These rulings refer to the decisions of the European justice system on the annulment of the EU-Morocco agricultural and fishing trade agreements and the recognition of the Polisario Front as a legitimate representative.. It is a great triumph in the institutionality that exposes other instances of the international community, how the MINURSO that has not carried out the mandate that gave rise to it for five decades: the call for a Referendum for the Self-Determination of Western Sahara. The reasons for this achievement are based on the insistent demand of the Polisario Front and the strong will for freedom of the Sahrawi people..
The Sahrawis resist the Moroccan troops on the combat fronts, to the repressive authorities in their occupied territories, to the plundering of natural resources in its lands and seas and to the unprecedented floods in the Tindouf refugee camps (Algeria). They resist Pedro Sánchez's policy that fails to fulfill Spain's responsibilities as the “administering power” of the Sahara, strengthens its ties with Mohamed VI and expels Saharawi asylum seekers from Barajas Airport. And they resist the traps of the autonomy plan of the Moroccan monarchy and the idea of division of the Sahara outlined by Staffann de Mistura of the United Nations.
From Socialism and Freedom (SOL) We support the fight of the Sahrawi people for self-determination, on the path of a socialist exit. We are proud to have participated in the most important demonstration that takes place in exile, how we have done it in previous opportunities and the solidarity expressed by International Socialist League (LIS) that we integrate.
The next 4 November 2025 will be fulfilled 50 years after the signing of the Madrid Tripartite Agreement through which Spain ceded Western Sahara to Morocco and Mauritania (1975) after the Moroccan occupation with the Green March. It will be a good opportunity to hold a large demonstration and spread the Sahrawi cause.
