Aquarius, they are welcome to Europe

Capitalism causes humanitarian crises. EU acts wretchedly.

During the early hours of Sunday 10, the ship “Aquarius” of the French NGO Sos Méditerranée, went to the rescue of those who were in two rubber rafts, on the Libyan coast of the Central Mediterranean. 629 people between them 123 unaccompanied minors, 11 small children and 7 pregnant women. They fled from Libya, Eritrea, South Sudan, Somalia, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Gambia and Guinea.

The Italian Interior Minister, Matteo Salvini (Northern League) He prevented the ship from entering his country stating "Italy is beginning to say no". In a claim full of cynicism, he demanded together with Minister Danilo Toninelli (M5S) for “Malta to assume its responsibilities” and welcome people.
Meanwhile, Pedro Sánchez (President of Spain) offered the UN to have the port of Valencia as a relief. Quim Torra (President of Catalonia), Íñigo Urkullu (Lehendakari of the Basque Country), Ada Colau (mayor of Barcelona) and other authorities of the Spanish State also offered help.
At the time of this writing, the captain of the ship informs that they will receive provisions, medicines and will undertake the journey from the coasts of Italy and Malta to the Valencian coast, dividing the people between the Aquarius and two other vessels. The reception operation would remain in the hands of the Red Cross and the Valencian government.
Although for the moment the crisis is on its way, it would be wrong to minimize that we are in the presence of a repeated case ad nauseam. In recent years more than 600 a thousand people were rescued and thousands more died at sea.
They run away for their lives, are victims of totalitarian regimes, epidemics and famines. Their situations are so desperate that launching into the sea in small boats implies choosing between the possibility of a possible refuge in Europe or certain death in Africa..
Faced with this, the EU's response is shameful. Angela Merkel, german prime minister, wants more police to "protect" borders. The new Italian right-wing government has already demonstrated its intentions. Some representatives of the PP rejected the help of their country stating that "Spain cannot be transformed into an NGO".
It is a fact that the responses of the bourgeois governments present nuances. But ultimately, all accept or give in to the implementation of reactionary measures against immigrants and refugees by the European Union. They turn to the immigrant when they need cheap and precarious labor, to guarantee profits business, is the common mechanics of imperialism.
Humanitarian aid is essential. Nevertheless, while at the same time defending the European imperialist bloc, they will be just a makeup for the exploitation and segregation of the EU. Rescuing immigrants and then deporting them instead of offering them a supportive reception is not saving them but returning them to the horror from which they escape.
We must demand an immediate response to the serious humanitarian situation of the Aquarius, we want immigrants and refugees to be accepted in Europe with the granting of full rights.
Knowing that, without defeating exploiters and oppressors, contempt for the poorest, that is to say, to the majority of humanity, will continue to bring capitalism closer to barbarism.
