Information column from Nicaragua: A 5 Pop months April

Nicaragua will never be the same after this. That fictional country that had invented ended.
Never those images of the first protests in April will forget, when the police came to fire on protesters. Since then violence and repression have been increasing. The Ortega-Murillo regime is desperate to break up the popular resistance that has organized national and international levels -a- in these five months of fighting.

Every day something new happens: torture, forced disappearences, exiles, murders. Despite what he says Daniel Ortega in the international press, Nicaragua is not normal. No country after suffering so much violence may be normal. The change is already done and is irreversible. Nicaragua is again going through a revolutionary process, in which the immediate departure of the Ortega-Murillo regime and openness to a process of democratization of the country is required.

In the context of this struggle arises weekly column for Anticapitalist Network, in order to give a report on the main events happening in Nicaragua. People who are facing the regime of the Ortega-Murillo need all our support and international community. Our mission is to consistently report all abuses and human rights violations committed by the dictatorship, in order to echo the situation in Nicaragua and generate international pressure.

Father and daughter are portrayed as terrorists

Was first Elsa Valley, from 18 years, journalism student. He is detained since 14 July for participating in protests around the National Technical University (UPOLI). From jail, He told his father, Carlos Valle: "Dad, not lower our guard. top gear, more seedlings, more street protests, It is the only way I can get out of here ". Almost two months later, Carlos is presented as a terrorist after being captured on the fly "Together we homeland" called this 15 September in Managua.

At the time of his arrest, Carlos was with his wife Rebeca Montenegro. Both were beaten and intimidated by agents of the National Police. This is a case of arbitrary detention in the context of the fight against Ortega. Importantly, the process of detention violates the presumption of innocence of detainees. From the international comunity we condemn the persecution and hunting against the Nicaraguan resistance and demand the immediate release of all political prisoners.
Almagro bothers the regime Ortega-Murillo

After Luis Almagro, Secretary General of the OAS, call publicly to "asphyxiate the dictatorship that has been installed in Nicaragua", in relation to the government's refusal to continue the national dialogue; The regime responded with an official statement which calls for the resignation of the officer considering it a "threat to international peace and security".

However, it is noteworthy that before the April protests there was an agreement between Ortega and the OAS. He 15 October 2016 It was signed in Managua, during a visit Almagro, an agreement to "strengthen democracy", which it consisted of a process of discussions and commitments to reform the country's electoral system.

At this time the Ortega-Murillo regime was quite pleased with the agreements with Almagro, and thus they expressed it, in the words of Rosario Murillo: "Brother Luis Almagro we are saying goodbye and parted with much affection and much recognition for the work they have done in our country. A job as our Commander Daniel said: He has contributed and is contributing to strengthen this democracy ".

After the April protests OAS position has changed and began to criticize the violent actions of the government of Ortega. Thus it is evident the rupture between the Ortega government and its main allies internationally.

university teaching is presented as terrorist

Upon returning from a march called for this 15 of September, Ricardo Baltodano, Union general secretary of teachers at the Polytechnic University of Nicaragua (UPOLI), He was arrested at his home in Colonia San Antonio. Ricardo had suffered harassment and harassment since the protests began, so it was in the process of obtaining the precautionary measures of the IACHR (Inter-American Commission on Human Rights).
He had suffered an attack last June when masked men spent shooting her home. His crime is having supported the students during protests UPOLI. His capture was preceded by a negative campaign on social networks driven by government supporters, where denigrate calling “criminal, putschist and terrorist ".

Such actions leave evidence direct attack against the university community, which it has been one of the main bastions in the five months of fighting. They are trying to criminalize our fellow resistance. They invent false charges and are judged behind closed doors. Then in prisons they suffer all kinds of torture and intimidation.

New forms of protest

Nicaraguans creativity has come to light in these five months of tragedy. It's not just marches and demonstrations that will achieve the output of the Ortega-Murillo. In this civic struggle must exhaust all areas that are within our reach to protest against injustice and state terrorism. With the emergence of paramilitary groups and increasing repression, the Nicaraguan people have found new ways to express their discontent with the presidential couple.

For example, this weekend people took to the streets fill with blue and white balloons in different parts of the country. Brought balloons hidden messages inside, rejecting the dictatorship. After we saw the videos of the paramilitaries close to the government who were sent to burst balloons in each of the streets where they appeared, and clean the subversive papelillos remaining on the floor. This action was taken as a symbol and replicated in countries where collective autoconvocados Nicaraguans in exile.

On the other hand, Nicaragua in different neighborhoods of old people hung shoes painted blue and white on power lines, to denounce the deaths of young people in protests. Also they took the opportunity to post messages in support of political prisoners and repudiation of the dictatorship. Nicaragua is a town with a great revolutionary culture, it will not allow the advance of the regime despite repression and paramilitary.

The student community continue attacks

Amaya Coppens Zamora, leading university city of León, fifth-year student of the Medicine, He was charged by the Public Prosecutor noon on Tuesday. The pattern is the same: the point of trumped-up charges such as kidnapping, terrorism and illegal possession of firearms. Amaya is part of that bunch of young people who are imprisoned for having joined the insurrectionary process that exists in Nicaragua. They are students, nondelinquent! His only crime was to fight for university autonomy and demand the ouster of the regime.

Amaya has dual nationality: Belgian-Nicaraguan. The Belgian government has expressed its concern about the case by Didier Reynders foreign minister, who said they are closely monitoring the situation. This university leader is detained since 10 of September, when police forces abducted during a march in western Mexico. On Tuesday, the Fifth Criminal Court Judge District Court of Managua admitted the charges and remanded to prison Amaya and the other defendants.
