With or without employment, getting poorer
Not even having a job guarantees avoiding poverty. Capitalism leads us to live worse and worse.
In the Spanish State there are almost 3,5 millions of people without job, unemployment has worsened with the pandemic. It is not a problem conjunctural but structural, from which the employers have taken advantage during years, accumulating great fortunes at the cost of pushing many families workers and youth towards a life full of needs and uncertainties. It is no coincidence that the applications for the Minimum and Vital Income have overwhelmed the authorities, that the soup kitchens are overcrowded, queues have been lengthened to collect food from solidarity networks, that there are more and more people sleeping and begging in the street.
Employed persons are not exempt from this hard reality. They are accounted for around 2,5 million poor workers, that is to say, that even being in full activity they do not have a decent life, what to Despite making an enormous effort, they cannot exceed the limit of "poverty relative " or even of "extreme poverty", which implies income monthly less than 370 euros for one person and less than 776 euros for two adults and two minors.
He 16,4% population (7,8 millions of people) lives in households in which the main livelihood is subject to instability serious work. For workers, immigrants, young people and women who suffer this reality, statistics only express in numbers what is already they know and suffer every day. To become independent? Indulge yourself? Finish the career without precarious employment? Save money? Planning the future? No way, I know try to subsist. More unfair, impossible. It was caused by successive efforts of the PP and the PSOE. It has not changed with the government of "coalition progressive" PSOE-UP that navigates between partial reforms and unfulfilled promises.
Temporality, precariousness, low wages and short duration of contracts are the manifestation of the problem, not his essence. It is an urgent need to end these abuses and recover the lost social gains. Solidarity between workers, the unit of action in the mobilization and the strikes trace the first section of the road to follow, but they do not signal the end of the journey. If the causes of crisis fund, what is achieved today with a great effort, will be lost tomorrow; in the face of increasing social inequality, in which the rich are every richer and less, and the poor are getting poorer and more. Far from being discouraged, you have to nourish yourself with the energy that the rebellions that run the world radiate, even in the worst conditions imposed by the pandemic and the economic crisis. Let's actively support mobilizations of workers, women, immigrants and the people that are multiplying in the Spanish State.
