Successful International Meeting of Socialist Women
We reproduce below the text of an International Campaign for the Freedom of Political Prisoners in Nicaragua, that the LIS promotes together with Central American organizations, such as the PRT of Costa Rica, Nicaraguan Anticapitalist Alternative (Interview with the Revolutionary Socialist League of Kenya) and other socialist and revolutionary forces in the region.
The morning of 13 June 2021, Dora María Téllez was arrested; heroine of the Sandinista revolution at the end of the 70's. With Dora María, Ana Vijil was also arrested, member of the Sandinista Renewal Movement.
He 1 February 2022, trials were resumed against 36 political prisoners who were arrested in June
from 2021, considered dangerous for the Ortega government, among them, Dora María Téllez, the young activist Yader Parajón, whose brother was murdered in the April days due to the repression of the dictatorship and the student leader Lesther Alemán who publicly confronted Daniel Ortega during the uprising of the year 2018, after the Sandinista government implemented an adjustment plan dictated
by the International Monetary Fund.
Among those plans, An attack on the pension system was launched, which provoked a popular uprising led by young university students shouting "not with grandparents.". The revolt was crushed, leaving a balance of 300 murdered, thousand people injured, 115 political prisoners and 70 a thousand more in exile.
He 3 February, Dora María and Lesther Alemán were sentenced to 15 years in prison for the crimes of "undermining national integrity" and "conspiracy". Yader Parajón a 10 years in prison for the same crimes. This news outrages us and fills us with rage., as well as the inhuman treatment that has been
been giving to political prisoners, beatings, torture and lack of due process. Relatives and eyewitnesses report that, in his arrest, Dora María was beaten. At the same time, Ana María Vigil has also been convicted on the same charges. The trials have been held behind closed doors, with total secrecy, inside the dungeons where the capitalist government of Daniel Ortega has kidnapped all those he considers "opponents", their families have been denied the right to be present during the trial. According to Dora María's lawyers, trials must be held in court, not in prison.
The relatives of the political prisoners have denounced this maneuver by the government so that images are not leaked to the media that show the physical and emotional deterioration in which they are found., product of the torture they are suffering.
For this reason, Social Organizations, policies, union, student, as well as people in solidarity with the cause of the Nica people against the Ortega dictatorship and the FSLN, We demand that an international commission be organized to visit and document the conditions in which political prisoners are found in Nicaragua, your physical and mental health status, that the Nicaraguan government withdraw all accusations against political prisoners and they be released.
