L'Hospitalet de Llobregat and Barcelona: the CUP campaign is already in the streets

We already published a first note on our participation in the CUP lists ahead of the municipal elections. The electoral campaign has already started. In this opportunity we count some of the activities of the weekend in L'Hospitalet (LH) and in Barcelona.

Saturday 25, in an act held at the Collblanc Market, the candidacy of the CUP LH was presented, under the motto "People who fight is what is needed". opened the act Carles Riera whom we interviewed once the event is over. The deputy of the CUP in the Parliament highlighted the depth of the world capitalist crisis, aggravated by the pandemic and war. and raised: “The most progressive government has not stopped the evictions or the repression. The same PSC that has governed L'H for decades will be represented in several candidacies. Monika Con, Silvia and Edu the CUP is the only alternative”.

workers, feminists, for the environment, the public and social rights

Then Silvia Cubet took the floor, heritage advocate. among other concepts, explained how "Environmentalism is the way to combat the brick policy that leads the majority of the residents of L'Hospitalet to live in substandard housing and substandard neighborhoods designed in favor of the interests of a privileged few".

Then Edu Baeza, activist in defense of public education and the rights of the working class, he pointed: “You cannot govern by all; Either you govern for the working majority and ensure their rights or for the privileged minority that takes advantage and markets them. We need to govern ourselves.".

And the act was closed by the candidate for Mayor Monica Tena, A hard-working woman, feminist and fighter from the Gornal neighborhood who expressed: “We want a Hospitalet, a Baix Llobregat and Catalan countries without evictions, massification, speculation or racism. We want strong municipal public services and Catalan as a cohesive language”.

SOL on the CUP list

Then a round of words opened, in which I intervene on behalf of SOL, since I integrate the list together with the partner Flor Salgueiro. I greeted the candidacy, I denounced the management of the PSC in LH as a “capitalist fiefdom in which Marín does and undoes as he pleases, at the service of businessmen and the rich”. I stressed that the changes that are needed must be fundamental, and not those who propose the PP, Ciudadanos and Vox as expressions of the right and ultra-right. And I referred to the limitations of those who say “progressive and left-wing and they are not”, like in We common and CKD.

Ruben Tzanoff, Sun (Socialism and Freedom).

Also in the Raval

On Sunday 28, at the Ateneo del Raval Factory House, a talk was held forGuarantee the rights of all and all” of the CUP Barcelona - L'Alternativa. The first candidates on the list were presented there.: Basha Changue, Santi González and Andrea Terrón. On that occasion, they talked about the serious problems that Barcelona is going through with regard to its residents, as a brand designed to meet the needs of entrepreneurs, mass tourism and international fairs. In which the neighbors are the last in line, suffer gentrification, unpayable rent and evictions. Where the management of Ada Colau from EnComú-Podem has nothing progressive or left-wing. After the talk there was popular paella and artistic expressions in what the starting shot of the campaign in Ciudad Vieja meant. There were also colleagues from SOL supporting the presentation of the CUP.

join the campaign

Contrary to the campaigns carried out by the parties of the '78 regime, those who are provided with funds by the big capitalist entrepreneurs, the CUP campaign is carried out with a militant effort and you can help. The campaign will spread through the neighborhoods of LH and Barcelona, with proposals for the working class, women, young people and immigrants. For the CUP to be a spokesperson for the struggles in the City Council and for a life for the vast majority that is worth more than business profits and real estate deals.

Need a background output

From SOL we militate for a new political alternative, anticapitalist, left, combative, of class independence and socialist. For supporting the struggles of french village, strikes in the UK, in Germany and other European countries where the working class does not want to pay the piper of the crisis. For internationalism and the regroupment of revolutionaries, as the International Socialist League that we integrate.
