24E: Internationalist solidarity with the strike in Argentina

He 24 from January, The CGT of Argentina has called for a 24-hour strike, against the adjustment and repression plan of the right-wing Milei government. Different organizations in Catalonia have made a proposal for a broad concentration in front of the Consulate of Argentina in Barcelona. Then, We reproduce the text by which different organizations call:

“CONCENTRATION OF SUPPORT FOR NATIONAL STRIKE AGAINST THE MILEI ADJUSTMENT PLAN – 24 JANUARY – 13H”

“He has not even been in office for a month and Javier Milei has launched a package of historic adjustments against the working class and the popular sectors of Argentina. It will not take 45 days in office when the working class and the popular sectors carry out a first National Strike, he 24 from January, to try to knock him down.

The new government, also made up of figures from the traditional right around former President Macri, announced a Decree of Necessity and Urgency of the executive itself, modifying hundreds of laws, while presenting a Ley Omnibus. Both measures add up to a brutal devaluation and the government's “price freedom” that they are assuming, in the immediate, a monthly inflation of 30%, thousands of contract suspensions of public workers, increase in service rates, transport and electricity and a wave of layoffs in the private sector.

If they finally come out ahead, Milei would be applying a historical counter-reformation, anti-worker, pro-employer and subservient to imperialist interests of North American and European multinationals and the IMF.  Both projects include measures such as facilitating external debt, privatize 41 public companies or a labor reform that eliminates the right to strike, establishes a free and cheap dismissal, extends the subcontracting model and favors unregistered contracting.

To pass off such an attack, Milei is imposing measures typical of a dictatorship to avoid social protest and worker and popular organization. Demonstrations that affect traffic have been prohibited and companies want to be given the power to freely fire and without compensation those workers who support strikes or participate in picketing., persecuting their leaders and organizations through a “repressive protocol” of federal forces.

These prohibitions were challenged in a first mobilization called by the left, combative unionism and social movements last 20 from December, anniversary of the days that brought down the De la Rua government in 2001. Thousands of people come challenging them in cacerolazos and protests that spread throughout the country against adjustment. Finally, the central union CGT, has had to break its passivity and has called for a 24-hour strike day next 24 from January, where the left will demand a national struggle plan.

This National Strike can become a first major battle against Milei's brutal plan, which is a kind of laboratory for the continental and international extreme right to apply harsh adjustment recipes on the social majorities. This is why internationalist solidarity becomes essential.

Since Internationalist Struggle, the Revolutionary Current of Workers and Socialism and Freedom, We want to propose to the organizations of combative unionism, social movements and the Catalan anti-capitalist left, together with the organizations of the Argentine community in Catalonia, organize an action support for the National Strike next 24 from January, in form of concentration in front of the Consulate of Argentina at 1:00 p.m. on that same day and the delivery in the registry of communications rejecting the Milei government's measures and in support of the sectors in struggle.".
