Indefinite camp in Sol

since saturday 26 September and indefinitely, Puerta del Sol hosts a camp in front of the Presidency of the Community of Madrid to protest against evictions and real estate speculation in the city and the rest of the State. Different groups that make up the Unitary Process of Housing Groups of Madrid come together in the camp, city housing associations and unions, in addition to expressions of the student movement, of the revolutionary left, the Firefighters collective against evictions and Students for the general strike, among others. The slogan that presides over the camp is: “Our city is not your Monopoly”. The posters also read “Housing is a right” and phrases that denounce vulture funds as the great invaders of the city. The mobilization was reactivated after the eviction of Maricarmen.
He 29 September the Government has approved the Royal Housing Decree in the Council of Ministers, which includes suspension until 31 from December to 2028 of eviction processes, with annual review. Even so, one of the most chanted harangues in Sol, especially among young people, it is “Where is the progressive government?”, in reference to the Executive of Pedro Sánchez and the PSOE, because the camp spokespersons consider the decree insufficient and that it does not respond to the structural need for housing. In his interventions, They claim housing as a fundamental right and call for self-organization to defend houses.
The president of the Community of Madrid is also present in the speech, Isabel Diaz Ayuso. The protesters oppose, as they point out, what “For Ayuso there is a luxury penthouse and for the working class there are evictions”, in reference to the controversy over the million-dollar penthouse that he acquired with public money a few weeks ago. The camp also expresses solidarity with the migrants from Ceuta and with the Palestinian people. Among the next calls, alternative left organizations propose a massive demonstration at the state level next 3 October in all the autonomous communities and demand that class unions call a state general strike.
