United Kingdom: Liz Truss fell and the crisis continues

Author: Julio Santana LIS United Kingdom

With the resignation of the prime minister who took office just over a month ago, The political crisis continues to deepen, economic and social. The Conservative Party and the Labor Party rehearse responses to save the regime, within the framework of bipartisan alternation. It is necessary for the street mobilization to break in and for the unions to call a general strike, so that the crisis does not fall on the backs of the working people. The formation of a new political alternative of the left is an immediate task, for a workers' government and socialism.

Liz Truss took over as Prime Minister whenboris johnson fell, to try to overcome the political and economic crisis in the United Kingdom. At that time, he proposed an ultra-conservative neoliberal plan that was widely repudiated and was discarded..

dizzying road to the abyss

The superstructure fell back into the abyss, to such an extent that political analysts had been pointing out that it was not Truss who made the decisions but Jeremy Hunt, the head of Finance.  The fall was precipitated when Truss was forced to resign as she lost the support of her party and the confidence of the markets.. Nevertheless, the fundamental thing was the popular rejection of his measures, that was expressed in the polls and in the agenda of ongoing struggles. It is only a change of names that maintains the essence of a right-wing party to which Sánchez once again extended his hand 44 days in office are the shortest tenure in history, reason why it was renamed "La Breve", alluding to the Bourbon King Louis I, who remained on the Spanish throne for 229 days which earned him the nickname "El Breve".

The fuses didn't work

After the failure of the Truss plan, Foreign Minister Kwasi Kwarteng was fired, who was followed by the Minister of the Interior Suella Braverman. Although Truss managed to survive Wednesday's parliamentary control session 19, he was already in intensive care with reserved diagnosis. Thursday morning 20 called a meeting in Downing Street and at 13.30 hours announced his resignation. It is evident that the assumption ofCarlos III replacing his mother Isabel II. Royal and Conservative fuses blown as the UK is in a deep and dizzying crisis, in sync with the systemic crisis of capitalism on a global level.

Who will replace Truss?

Truss's political corpse will remain in his office-morgue for a week, until a replacement is chosen. There are several names for the casting of horror: Rishi Sunak, Jeremy Hunt, Ben Wallace, Penny Mordaunt y, even Boris Johnson himself. TheTory made the decision to repeat the Liz Truss selection mechanism: elect the new prime ministerwithin the four walls of the Conservative Party headquarters without any democratic consultation of the people.

The Labor Party comes out to save the regime

The leader of the Labor Party, Sir Keir Starmer, raised the need to call early elections to take advantage of the electoral sympathy they acquired during the crisis. It doesn't even cross his mind to call for the street mobilization to break in. as one of the twolegs of bipartisanship, they intend to channel the crisis within the margins of the regime and the capitalist system. The events configure two crises that combine and feed back.

Government, the regime and the system to the tumbles

One of the developing crises is that of the government and the regime. The conservatives stopped supporting whom they had anointed in September. Y, at the height of delirium and disrespect for the people, raise the return of Boris Johnson as a possibility in dance. That the return of such a character be considered after his failure, shows the prevailing decomposition. The other crisis is systemic. As we already stated in a previous article, the economic crisis is so deep that it caused the pound to fall to historical levels, more price increases on staple foods,  of energy, rents and mortgages. The crisis is not superficial, nor sporadic, but deep and sustained, as an expression of the ongoing world capitalist crisis.

A general strike is needed

Regrettably, the union leaders are not responding to the height of the circumstances either. They are letting the battles against the government be waged union by union and they do not encourage the working class to be the protagonist in the face of the political crisis. They have mentioned the need to coordinate strikes, but they do not specify it with which, Until now, It was just a stance towards the press. why the tuc (Trades Union Congress) does not call a general strike? Why don't the leaders of the unions in struggle call for a general strike?? the answer is simple: they are acting as a transmission belt for labor politics to contain the labor movement. At times when the government experiences utter weakness, they put ice on the inflammation caused by the appearance of the labor movement in the close-ups of the scene. All to pave the way for the Labor Party, which already warns about its limitations by stating that they will depend on“inheritance received”.It would not be a surprise if in the future these leaders were in charge of asking for patience to stop the struggles and facilitate a Labor government.

A program so that the crisis is paid for by the capitalists

It is time for theworker mobilizationimpose an agenda of struggle and own demands, with transitional proposals. How can progress be made in overcoming the serious social problems of the working people without laying hands on the coffers of the capitalists?, who continue to amass immense (and obscene) Profits? How will rising energy bills be reversed?, without nationalizing the companies and putting them under the control of their workers and users? How are decent pensions to be achieved without nationalizing the entire system?? How can it be ensured that inflation does not empty the pockets of workers without clauses for the automatic readjustment of wages in accordance with price increases?? An emergency economic plan is needed so that the crisis is paid for by the capitalists. Neither a Conservative nor a Labor Prime Minister will go in this direction., Conversely, favor the interests of the powerful, the rich and privileged in the UK. What is needed is a government of the workers and the people with a socialist system.

It is necessary to form a new political alternative of the left

In Labor, there have been sectors for a long time that have raised the possibility of forming a new political movement around the figure of Jeremy Corbyn. The truth is that when Corbyn was leader of the opposition he faded on the margins of reformism. The best thing would be to build a new movement, left, with worker candidates in the front line. The big onesmobilizations and strikes in France mark the way forward and at the same time reaffirm theenormous limitations of reformism who needs to be overcome. The formation of a new tool of the anti-capitalist left is a present and indispensable task, to face the bipartisan alternation in power with immediate and strategic proposals.
