Alarm status II: from the "new normal" to the prolonged nightmare

The second wave is not only attributable to the virus. The EU and governments are also responsible for the repetition of the health and social disaster.

The PSOE-UP government has decreed a new state of alarm in the Spanish State, when considering the incidences of pandemic at a very high risk level. The decree is valid for 15 days, but it states that the measure will govern until 9 May 2021, his expansion will depend on congressional approval. The main measures already in vigor are: night curfew enforcement of 23.00 to 06.00 hours, meeting limitation, public or private, six people and the possibility to limit, condition or prohibit demonstrations "when in the prior communication presented by the promoters, the personal distance necessary to prevent contagion ". The exceptions mobility will be allowed to go to work, Buy medicines, goods of first necessity and other specified actions, the bars, restaurants and nightlife venues will remain closed. The autonomies may confine partially or totally the territory and limit both the entry and exit of he. If the measures don't work, the next step may be confinement total, that is to say, domiciliary.

A large part of the autonomous governments pressed for these measures to be adopted and are running. In general, they consider them “proportionate to the extreme gravity of the situation" and they affirm that "They do not imply the suspension of any right fundamental". Spain is once again facing a serious health situation, between the worst in Europe, to the limit of the collapse of hospitals, with a number of infections on the rise that have already exceeded one million people and hundreds daily deaths.  If the danger of reaching this situation is already had expressly announced, then why has there been? It is because they warned about the risks, but not they acted accordingly.  from now, we reject that once again the inks are being loaded on individual responsibility of people, fundamentally about the workers, immigrants and young boys. Of course, individual care is important, but the central It is the responsibility of government efforts.

When the consequences of the spread of the virus around the world, the authorities said that they had no experience "Because it is something new for everyone". With false excuses tried to justify insufficient measures, unfair and authoritarian that they adopted during the first wave, that are now repeated in the second, aggravated by action u omission in the lapse of time between one and the other.

They hastened to decree the start of a fake "New normal" to support the obligation to attend to work, recover business profits and receive tourists. The number of active contact trackers was laughable compared to those necessary to control the epidemic, performing the PCR test was irregular and was far from reaching the level necessary to be determinant. Nor was a qualitative investment made in hospitals or CAPs, to despite the fact that it proved indispensable due to the lack of inputs, facilities and infrastructure. The complaints of the health personnel were not attended to to the precariousness and labor injustices they faced in the first line, neither the cuts nor the privatizations carried out by the governments for decades.

The employment situation and precariousness got worse, as well as the living conditions of the most vulnerable, of lxs worker, Young, women, lxs immigrants, pensioners and all the town. What there is is more unemployment, more social inequality, more poverty and uncertainty. The primary responsibility lies with the government of "coalition progressive" PSOE-UP, whose officials claim that "The fundamental thing is take sanitary measures affecting the economy as little as possible ", is tell, corporate profits that continued to prioritize over the life between the first and second waves.

Nor can they evade their responsibilities of the autonomous governments, among them, the Catalan executive, which in this case acted to justify the state of alarm in Spain. Because, we agree with the CUP when it points out that "The Government is supplying the lack of public resources to face Covid-19 with limitations of fundamental rights and holding the population responsible " and we support both the measures it proposes and the call to mobilize.

It should be noted that the EU once again acted as disastrously like the first wave, leaving each country to its own luck and free way against the virus. Actions were not taken together, they are insufficient and even contradictory from state to state. In the continent richest on earth public health cuts, lack of investment and the advance of privatizations have caused a social disaster. Capitalism and its defenders systematically lead us to disaster.

For these reasons, We insist on proposing the health and social measures that we have already put into consideration from the International Socialist League for a single health system, public, universal and free, while pointing out that there is no pandemic that implies cutting social rights and deepening authoritarianism, but rather, quite the opposite: It is in times of crisis where it is most necessary to appeal to the population and put all public resources at the service of meeting the needs of the great majority. Let's not let them normalize the health disaster, social inequalities, authoritarianism and impose fear and resignation. Mobilization and organization mark the way so that we are not the workers and the peoples who pay the costs of the crisis, nor with our lives, nor with hunger, misery and unemployment.
